Proud.

Every person has a different way of studying. I realized that as the years come, my studying habits have changed tremendously. I used to love studying around 12am and pulling an all-nighter. For some reason, all my creativity came during the night, and my writing skills were surprisingly better! Nowadays, I prefer studying at home during the early mornings. I feel like the best time to study is right after I wake up. The most important thing though is to get rid of all distractions. The old me used to love studying with the tv on, music blasting in the background, blackberry interrupting my thoughts every few minutes. The new me however is different; I prefer to switch off everything except my laptop (for study purposes obviously), sit in a quiet bright room where I can hear my thoughts and lastly, reward myself. I am a HUGE fan of to-do lists, simply said: my life is a to-do list. I usually start off by listing what I have to do, this helps me estimate the amount of time I need and amount of energy I should put into my work. Then, I break down what I have to do and reward myself after each task is completed for example:

1.research articles online
2. read books
3. start writing
4. do bibliography

Usually, I would do number 1 and 2, then I would give myself a break. During this break I'd check my facebook account, maybe go online and chat with a few friends, check my messages etc. because I am so used to doing these things on a regular basis, I would not be able to concentrate if I had to work for say six hours straight without doing those things. Therefore, this break helps relaxes me and gives me time to think about something besides school for a minute. I then go back to working without having to think about a hungry stomach or unchecked messages.

Today, I woke up early and decided that I had to force myself to really understand my topic. I have a presentation tomorrow with my tutorial group, therefore, it is very important that I get all my information organized. I worked for four hours straight and accomplished a lot of stuff! I’m actually starting to understand the topic more myself. I'm a bit behind on the reading, so for tomorrow’s to-do list I have promised to dedicate some library time to not only check out books but print out journals, and articles on my topic.

Nervous about tomorrow’s presentation.

Got to get back to work
!

Nars Make-up on Marc Jacobs.

Disturbing Much? What do you think?

Kudos to Me.

GUESS WHAT PEOPLE? I decided on a topic! It suits the brief but I'm a bit worried. I'm not so excited about this new topic like I was with my previous one. Will this stop me from acing this report? I hope not. I emailed my tutor my new idea, she approved but said it was vague. Maybe I should go to student support to help me clarify it more. This flu is really getting in my way, I feel like I have a lot going on in my life its too hard to focus completely on my dissertation.

*Update: I spent the day discussing my topic with a friend, I usually do that to generate more ideas and help myself understand the purpose of my topic. I slimmed down the topic, did some research online and wrote down what the topic is about and where I expect to go with it. Its actually interesting I sound like a geek but I'm really excited to start researching on it! The only thing Im concerned about is whether I will be able to relate the topic to our world today and bring in new examples on it. At our last lecture, we were told that there are no new topics, but you can always take a new angle or perspective, on the topic itself. So, how do I do that with my topic? Student support perhaps?

Hmm.. I dont know...that's my assignment for the day: Come up with a new angle to approaching the topic and write down objectives and aims for the topic.

To Dusting it Off !

I just came back from the tutorial. I'm a bit disappointed to be honest. My presentation was really bad, I was too focused on not doing well, I lost track of my ideas and forgot everything. I literally just blanked out. I'm really disappointed because I honestly put a lot of work preparing myself for this presentation, but my performance didn't show that unfortunately. The feedback I got from the students basically was that my topic is more 'cultural studies than business strategy' and that I should change it around a bit. I hate to admit it but I DO agree with them, I had a feeling that my topic didn't fit the brief anyway, but its a shame because I basically wasted my weekend reading a whole bunch of books for nothing! My goal for this week is to transform my topic into a strategy-focused topic and do some reading to prepare me for next weeks presentation. I feel like I'm a bit behind seeing that everyone has finalized their topic already, but maybe this will get me on top of things. Also, its good they pointed this out to me now since I haven't started writing yet.

Things to do this week:
-I really like my topic so instead of changing it completely I will just have to learn to take a different more strategic approach to it. So, number 1 on my list is TRANSFORM TOPIC.
-Return books on previous topics and check out new books.
-Read Read Read, and take notes
-Research online (online journals and texts to back up my argument/topic)
-Prepare for next presentation and make sure I do well on it *fingers crossed*

Before I sign out, I will leave you with a line from Aaliyah's (May she rest in peace) song 'Try Again'
"If At First You Don't Succeed, Dust Yourself Off and Try Again"

I Hate Presentations.

Today is my first tutorial for research planning.
I must admit I'm a bit nervous, because I read that we have to present our
topics to our peers,
and due to previous experiences I am nervous that I
will mess this one up.
I literally spent the whole week in the library reading
on my topic so I'm quite satisfied with it.
However, I'm just worried my topic
doesn't fit the brief. I really would hate it if I was asked to change it.

Times up! Got to head to class...Wish me luck!

Introducing Moi:

Hello,
This is my first post, and I must admit it feels a bit weird doing this. I dont really know how to start so I'm just going to say what's on my mind. Well...I started this blog for a Reflective Discourse class at uni. The purpose of this blog is to document my goals and journeys throughout my last year at fashion school. However, it is a fashion blog after all, so you can definitely expect random fashion posts every now and then!
